Day 1:

Overnight: Katambuga

Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be met by an Asilia driver. Transfer to your accommodation for the night – a journey of around one hour depending on traffic. If you have time free this afternoon and wish to sightsee, we can offer a range of activities around Arusha – ask your Asilia consultant for details. Otherwise simply relax in the pretty gardens and recover from your international flights before your safari begins tomorrow.

A charming small boutique guesthouse on the west of Arusha, approximately one hour’s drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport. There are just six rooms here, excellent food and attentive staff, and lovely gardens with a swimming pool overlooking Mount Meru and coffee farms.

day 2:

Overnight: Kuro Tarangire

Your Asilia safari guide will meet you this morning after breakfast and you will depart in your 4x4 private safari vehicle for Tarangire National Park, a journey of approximately four hours to reach the park gate. From here you will game drive through the park to reach your safari camp, arriving in time for lunch. Tarangire is a beautiful park to explore, with high populations of elephant, superb birdlife and a landscape that is punctuated by baobab trees, verdant swamps and distant volcanoes. After a rest, set off on an afternoon game drive to explore the park further with your guide, returning to camp for drinks around the campfire and dinner.

A rustic-chic camp with six ensuite tented rooms with lounge area. The camp is close to one of the national park’s swamps which forms a magnet for wildlife in the park and has a spacious open lounge and dining area with thatch roof.

Day 3:

Overnight: Kuro Tarangire

Explore Tarangire in the early morning and late afternoon when wildlife is most active with your driver-guide, returning to the camp for lunch and a siesta during the heat of the day. Alternatively take a picnic lunch to go out for a full day drive, exploring further into the park.

day 4:

Overnight: Gibb’s Farm

Depart with your guide and private vehicle, game driving on your way out of the park and then driving to Lake Manyara National Park with a picnic lunch, to explore this small but vibrant park. The lakeshore is home to flocks of flamingos and pelicans, whilst the forests are home to elephant, bushbuck and a variety of monkeys. In the mid-afternoon, you’ll drive onward, up the wall of the Great Rift Valley and into the Ngorongoro highlands, characterised by a patchwork quilt of small farms and coffee plantations. Stay near the market town of Karatu for the next two nights.

A stylish country retreat in the hills near Karatu, Gibbs Farm is renowned for excellent and home-grown food and charming hosting. There are 17 rooms in cottages set amongst the lush gardens, a spa and numerous activities to help you explore the area fully.

day 5:

Overnight: Gibb’s Farm

Enjoy game drives in the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ngorongoro Crater today. This dormant volcano provides a natural sanctuary for a wonderful diversity of wildlife, including black rhino, lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and more. Typically you will spend the morning exploring with your guide, have a picnic lunch and then depart in the mid-afternoon to your lodge to relax for the remainder of the day. (Note: High end option will be game drives on a shared basis from Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, whereas Mid/Mid-high options will be with their driver-guide as per previous days)

Day 6:

Overnight: Pioneer Camp

An early breakfast before you depart with your driver-guide for the open plains of the Serengeti. You will drive around the western part of the Ngorongoro crater before dropping down into the savannah and entering the park through the Naabi Hill gate, stopping in a shady spot for lunch. Once you’re within the Serengeti you will game drive as you make your way north to the central region of the park, stopping to enjoy wildlife sightings on the way. Arrive at your camp in the mid/late afternoon and enjoy a well earned rest before dinner.

Located near the Moru kopjes in the central Serengeti, where black rhino can sometimes be seen, there are twelve tented rooms, decorated in a style that harks back to early colonial safaris. There is a small plungepool and the sundowner bar boasts endless views across the Serengeti from its elevated position.

Days 7 & 8:

Overnight: Pioneer Camp

Enjoy game drives with your driver-guide exploring the open savannah of the Serengeti in the early morning and late afternoon, returning to camp for lunch. You can also pack a picnic and go out for a full day if you wish. The density and diversity of wildlife in the Serengeti is second to none, with plentiful big cats, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and so much more. Hot air ballooning is also possible at an additional cost (prebooking recommended) for an unforgettable way to start your day, soaring high above the park at sunrise and enjoying a champagne cooked breakfast afterwards.

Day 9:

Return to Kilimanjaro

After breakfast in camp, you will be driven to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha, a flight of approximately 3 hours depending on the number of stops made along the way to drop off/pick up passengers (15 kg luggage limit per person in soft bags).
