Your Asilia safari guide will meet you this morning after breakfast and you will depart in your 4x4 private safari vehicle for the small town of Karatu. The journey will take around 4-5 hours and will provide plenty of opportunities to see local life as you pass small villages and towns. As you get closer to the Great Rift Valley the scenery will change, more and more small farms and coffee plantations will appear until you arrive in the small market town of Karatu – your gateway and access point to the Ngorongoro Highlands.
This property is set on a 500-acre plot which includes coffee plantations, wheat fields, veg patches and beautifully kept gardens with a swimming pool. It is certainly on the larger side with 30 rooms, but the service here retains a sense of intimacy and the rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Overnight: Ngorongoro Farmhouse Valley lodge
Enjoy game drives in the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ngorongoro Crater today. This dormant volcano provides a natural sanctuary for a wonderful diversity of wildlife, including black rhino, lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and more. Typically, you will spend the morning exploring with your guide, have a picnic lunch and then depart in the mid-afternoon to your lodge to relax for the remainder of the day.
Overnight: Nasikia Mobile migration Camp
You will be driven to the Manyara airstrip (around 30 mins), to catch your light aircraft flight to the Kogatende region in the very north of the Serengeti (15 kg luggage limit per person in soft bags). Before boarding you will say goodbye to your Asilia driver/guide. The flight will take approximately 1 hour depending on how many stops are made to pick up/drop off other passengers and on arrival in Kogatende you will be greeted by your guide from Nasikia Mobile Camp. You will be driven to camp and will arrive in camp in time for lunch and rest before going out on an afternoon safari activity. (Your safari activities will now be in a shared, open vehicle. Six guests can be accommodated, or private vehicles are available at additional cost. Pre booking is advisable).
This is a classic tented, mobile camp which moves around the Serengeti twice per year following the migration herds. When in the north of the Serengeti it is in the Kogatende region, close to the Mara River. When in the south it is in an area known as Ndutu, on the NCAA side. With just 12 merustyle tents it offers simple but comfortable accommodation in a prime location. All tents have ensuite bathrooms with bucket showers. There is a fire pit for sundowner cocktails and canvas mess tent for communal dinning.
Overnight: Nasikia Mobile Camp
Enjoy game drives with your driver-guide exploring the open savannah of the Serengeti in the early morning and late afternoon, returning to camp for lunch. You can also pack a picnic and go out for a full day if you wish. The density and diversity of wildlife in the Serengeti is second to none, with plentiful big cats, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and so much more. Hot air ballooning is also possible at an additional cost (prebooking recommended) for an unforgettable way to start your day, soaring high above the park at sunrise and enjoying a champagne cooked breakfast afterwards.
