Overview

Sala’s Camp offers space, comfort and great views as well as an amazing safari experience. We can accommodate up to 20 guests in seven new luxury tents dotted along the Sand River, Sala’s guests are treated to a casual elegance of safari days gone by whilst also surrounded by contemporary touches like plunge pools and glass-fronted tents...The Camp’s interiors are elegant and comfortable. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower, running water and flushing toilets. Our electricity is solar-powered and there is a standby generator for refrigeration and charging devices. Typically, after a day’s excursion, return to relax in your hammock or meet up for sundowners by the campfire before enjoying dinner served under the stars.

Sala’s Camp prides itself on its hospitality and all arrangements are made with meticulous care. All guests enjoy full-board during their stay, which includes all meals and most drinks, excluding champagne and specially imported wines and spirits. There are activities on offer for children of all ages and babysitting is available. The camp is also suitable for guests with limited disabilities and special meals can be catered for by prior arrangement.

Keekorok Honeymoon Tent with a pool (Tent 1)

The honeymoon tent has a private plunge pool, veranda and spectacular views. The interior of the rooms are soft in color, embracing the natural hues of the surrounding yellow grasslands and river sand. The bathrooms are elegantly accented with rich copper and brass fittings reflecting Africa’s warmth and include large copper bathtubs and spacious showers. Floors are made from bamboo and covered with natural reed carpets while striking black and white images hang on the canvas, enriching the space.

Keekorok Family Tent with a pool (Tent 2a and 2b)

Sala’s new Family Tent is book-ended by two rooms that are joined by a communal lounge leading out onto a large veranda with sun beds, private dining areas and the plunge pool. The interior of the rooms are soft in colour, embracing the natural hues of the surrounding yellow grasslands and river sand. The bathrooms are elegantly accented with rich copper and brass fittings reflecting Africa’s warmth and include large copper bathtubs and spacious showers. Floors are made from bamboo and covered with natural reed carpets while striking black and white images hang on the canvas, enriching the space.

Forest Family Tent with a pool (Tent 3)

The Forest Family Tent can accommodate a family of two adults and 2 children and has space to accommodate a third bed. The tent has ensuite bathrooms with bath, flushing loo and plumbed in shower.

The Forest Luxury Tent 4 is located on the forest side of Sala's Camp. The tent embraces the charm of the traditional Hemingway-style safari while incorporating contemporary touches like glass doors.The tent has an ensuite bathroom with bath, flushing loo and plumbed in shower.

Forest Honeymoon Tent with a pool (Tent 7)

The Forest Honeymoon Tent is located on the forest side of Sala's Camp. It has a private plunge pool and is an airy, sophisticated room. It embraces the charm of the traditional Hemingway-style safari while incorporating contemporary touches like glass doors. The tent is located in a private and serene area at the end of the camp perfect for honeymooners.

Activities & features:

Game drives

Our game drive vehicles ensure maximum game viewing and comfort. They are kitted out with Maasai blankets and ponchos to keep you warm, suncream, fridges with cold drinks, hot drinks, books, sweets (everything to keep you happy during a game drive).

Bush volley ball

Enjoy a game of bush volley ball in the crocodile and hippo free section of the Sand River in front of Sala’s Camp when the water levels are low.

Bush lunch and bush dinner

Sala's camp can offer bush lunches to all guests at a perfect spot overlooking the Tanzanian border, under the shade of a sausage tree beside the Sand River. When the Sand River is dry dinner can be set up in the riverbed surrounded by candles where guests can enjoy a delicious Barbeque.

Gym in a bag

Each tent is provided with a Gym in a bag which you are welcome to use during your stay. Each bag contains a yoga mat, skipping rope and post safari stretch card to take you through some simple exercises to ease and relax.

Get arty on safari

Each tent has a watercolour set and artist pad for you to use during your stay. Get creative in the camp’s idyllic, artistic surroundings and paint the unique scenery, wildlife, flora and fauna.

Sundowners

An essential part of any safari experience. Watch the sun set over the vast animal filled plains of the Masai Mara.

Bird Watching

Sala’s location on the confluence of the Sand and Keekorok rivers mean that it is a true haven for birdlife. Discover the Mara’s vast array of birds from the privacy of your tent or as you lounge in one of the hammocks around camp.

Ballooning

Ballooning is a popular activity in the Mara particularly during the migration. Experience the magical Masai Mara from the comfort of a hot air balloon. Flights usually last one hour and include breakfast and a game drive. The whole experience will take three hours. The launch site is two kilometres from the Talek Gate, which is inside the reserve. The cost of this will be US$ 450 per person.

Bush breakfasts

After a morning game drive, enjoy a sumptuous bush breakfast without going back to camp. The game drive vehicles are fitted with stoves that allow guests to enjoy a freshly cooked bush breakfast, which includes fried eggs, omelettes and pancakes cooked to order.
