DumaTau Camp

Wilderness collection

Overview

Place: DumaTau, on the banks of the Linyanti River’s Osprey Lagoon, is located close to the source of the Savute Channel, between two elephant corridors, offering an exclusive combination of land and river experiences. Wildlife is viewed during game drives, on nature walks, and while boating along the serene waters of the Linyanti River (levels permitting).

Accommodation: The ten en-suite tented units (eight twin and two family) are raised off the ground with window-like netting providing a sense of space and dramatic views of the river. The architecture and interiors evoke a bygone age of exploration, carried through the main areas and ending on a floating fire deck. The Star Bed at Zibadianja Lagoon offers a thrilling perspective of the African bush at night.

Purpose: DumaTau is 100% solar powered, is involved in elephant conservation projects and is a Long Run Alliance member, dedicated to sustainability through the 4Cs.

Activities & features:

DumaTau Camp - Game Drives

Morning and afternoon game drives reveal the rich wildlife of the area where predators and elephant are often the highlight. Plains game and diverse birdlife also offer fantastic sightings. The open 4x4 Land Rovers each accommodate a maximum of seven people, allowing each guest a ‘window’ seat.

DumaTau Camp - Night Drives

Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. These often include lesser bushbaby, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and, if you are extremely lucky, the elusive pangolin!

DumaTau Camp - Nature Walks

Depending on qualified guide availability, nature walks with skilled, armed guides are wonderful ways of getting close to nature and observing the smaller things you miss when travelling by vehicle.

DumaTau Camp - Hides and Star

There is a hide at camp for those wishing to while away their siesta hour watching the active birdlife of the area, while a raised platform at the Zibalianja Lagoon is the perfect place from which to view and photograph animals and birds. This platform can also be used for an authentic and unique way to sleep out under the crystal clear African skies surrounded by nature.

DumaTau Camp - Seasonal Motorboat and River Barge

Water levels permitting, explore the Linyanti River by boat or barge, the latter perfect for picnics or sundowners or searching out those elusive birds so prevalent in the channels.

DumaTau Camp - Fishing

Seasonal fishing is permitted on a catch-and-release basis. The camp has a small stock of basic rods and reels.

DumaTau Camp - Birding

Birding is outstanding here, from Okavango specials to mopane woodland species. The Savute Channel is famous for its high concentration of eagles and raptors; this area is internationally recognised as an IBA (Important Bird Area).
